A Ball State University employee collapsed while working Tuesday night and died from an apparent heart attack.

An electrician, was working at the Teacher’s College when other employees found him in Room 101. He was pronounced dead at the scene after 11 p.m. 

A history of heart and respiratory problems, according to Delaware County Coroner James Clevenger Jr., and likely died of heart failure.

The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded $5 million to Ball State University to help pay for the replacement of its coal-fired boilers with geothermal heat pumps.

Ball State University student was released from Ball Memorial Hospital at 5 p.m. Tuesday, a week after accidentally shooting himself while cleaning his firearm.

Student, who had his pinky finger amputated as a result of the accident, said he is planning on attending classes Wednesday.

The student was in his apartment cleaning his gun last Tuesday when he accidently pulled the trigger.

"I called 911 and laid on the ground, waiting for the ambulance to take me to the hospital," he said.

The bullet severed his femoral artery as well as smaller veins and arteries in his leg.

The student said he bought his gun in July, but that he has been around guns since he was five.
