Citing research conducted by PlaceEconomics, a Washington, D.C., real estate/economic development consultant, The Star Press reported two years ago that the future of the South Central Neighborhood as a place to live was in doubt. Pastor Andrew Draper , founder of Urban Light Community Church , which serves the neighborhood; Draper's wife, Leslie, founder of Inspire Academy , a public charter school that serves the neighborhood; and others are challenging the consultant's findings.

Emergency responders rescued a kayaker from the rain-swollen White River near Muncie and searched for a second one before she was spotted safely on a riverbank. The Star Press reports crews rescued the unidentified female kayaker from the river near Daleville after she became trapped in brush around 3:30 p.m. Sunday and nearby residents heard her calls for help.

Delaware County leaders are concerned after few people stepped up to donate money to replace funding that will be lost after they canceled this year's hog wrestling event at the county fair. The fair board voted last month to remove hog wrestling after online petitioners complained that the event was cruel.
