12/18/2014   Indiana Supreme Court suspends Muncie judge

The Indiana Commission on Judicial Qualifications asked for Bennington's suspension Monday. It says Bennington has been on a voluntary leave of absence since late September and hasn't responded to the commission's subpoenas or told other Delaware County judges whether she intends to return to the bench.

12/18/2014   American Legion Honor Guard in Muncie IN recognized for service

For 29 years, American Legion Post 19 commander Jose Gaitan has served in an honor guard that provides military services to passing veterans. Fifteen veterans make up the honor guard from Post 19 locally, and some of them were on hand Wednesday to receive service awards from the legion.

12/17/2014   Woman target of two heroin probes

A Muncie woman was being held in the Delaware County jail under a $100,000 bond on Wednesday, accused of selling heroin to an agent for the Muncie Police Department's narcotics unit, and also with providing the substance to a man who later sold it to an agent for the Delaware County Sheriff's Department's Drug Task Force. Ashley Marie Dishman, 27, 2008 S. Manhattan Ave., was preliminarily charged with dealing in a narcotic drug and dealing in a controlled substance.

12/17/2014   CFO of Muncie Community Schools quits

Chip Mehaffey, who discovered the loss of nearly $20,000 in athletic ticket collections at Central High School, is quitting his position as chief financial officer at Muncie Community Schools after only six months. The Washington Times Herald reported on Wednesday that Mehaffey was hired Tuesday night as principal at Loogootee High School.

Mark Fishback, who plays "Santa" in "Elf" has Indiana ties. He was born in Muncie, lives in Indianapolis and has performed in the Circle City for 27 years.

12/16/2014   Trooper stops to help, makes drug arrest

On Saturday afternoon, an Indiana State Police trooper stopped to help a motorist and ended up arresting him on a drug charge. Trooper Scott McPheeters was southbound on Indiana 1 shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday, when he saw a maroon passenger car pulled off on the other side of the road in the area of Cheesman Road, north of Hagerstown.

12/15/2014   Mother arrested on neglect charge

A Muncie woman was arrested after she was found in an incoherent state while caring for her 2-year-old son. Mica Mary Janelle Stanley, 34, 114 S. Keystone Circle, was preliminarily charged with neglect of a dependent.

12/15/2014   State commission seeks suspension of Muncie judge

A state commission is seeking the immediate suspension of the Muncie city court judge who faces disciplinary charges including abuse of judicial power. The Indiana Commission on Judicial Qualifications asked Monday for the state Supreme Court to suspend Judge Dianna Bennington with pay.

Myna Robertson's voice was heard Friday when she told about a 70-year-old man in the community that was stopped and handcuffed by police. Robertson, daughter of activist Vivian Conley, told a group of people talking about racism how the police were looking a youthful suspect that was driving a similar vehicle to the older man.

12/14/2014   Storm sewer project 1st step in Muncie overflow plan

The Star Press reports more than 600 million gallons of storm water laced with raw sewage overflowed into the White River and Buck Creek during the first nine months of this year. That puts them on track for more than 800 million gallons of wastewater pollution by the end of the year.

<![CDATA[Martha K. Harris MUNCIE, Ind. - Muncie - Martha K. Harris, 99, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday morning, December 10, 2014, at Stonebrooke Nursing Home in New Castle. Martha was born on December 3, 1915, in a farmhouse in Economy to Clyde and Erie (Ross) Huffman. She was one of 11 children, graduated from Cowan High School in 1933, and married her high school sweetheart, James Harris, on February 23, 1935. They were married for 60 years before his death in May, 1995. She was a farmer's wife and homemaker, sewed beautifully, and made the best rolls, noodles, and pies ever! She was a member of Cowan Christian Church, and will be remembered for her giving spirit and her angels. She leaves many to cherish her memory: Her daughter, Sandra Leinbaugh and children, Bob (Teri), Jim (Jolene), and Dan (Kim), and her son, Montie Harris (Hazel Vester) and children, Jenni (Ken) Risch, Jon (Faith McGrath), Jannine, and Joel, and their mother, Cora. She also leaves 10 great grandchildren and three great-great granddaughters. Sisters Dorothy Baldwin and Mildred Lyons also survive, as well as several nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, three sisters, an infant granddaughter, and her son-in-law, John Leinbaugh. Services were Saturday, December 13, 2014, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Cambridge City. Memorials may be directed to Gentiva Hospice, 6431 S. Indiana Legal Services began a re-entry project to provide help to those with criminal records. The law allows most arrests along with lower level felonies and most misdemeanors to be removed.

The Jacob Sexton Act seeks to help prevent military suicide, by requiring annual mental health assessments for all service members, including active duty, Guard, and Reserve. The Sexton Act was drafted and championed by Indiana Senator Joe Donnelly.

The company said the announcement is the next logical step after the divestment of the North American business that was finalized in April 2014. A formal bidding process for Verallia France, which reported sales of 2.435bn last year, will be launched based on second-half earnings, and is expected to reach an agreement with a buyer before summer 2015.
