A psychologist says a central Indiana woman who pleaded guilty to trying to abduct a 3-year-old girl is manipulative and envious of others. The report from psychologist is included in a memorandum filed by Delaware County prosecutors ahead of Wednesday's scheduled sentencing hearing for 35-year-old Judith Ann Walker of Anderson.

Authorities say a 23-year-old Muncie woman died after her vehicle traveling the wrong way on a highway collided with a train south of the city. The Star Press reports Brenna Ann Parsons's car was crushed under the Norfolk Southern shortly after 11 p.m. Friday night and flipped onto the median.

By looking at 25 years of data on the Konza Prairie Biological Station, Allison Veach, doctoral student in biology, Muncie, Indiana, and Walter Dodds, university distinguished professor of biology, are researching grassland streams and the expansion of nearby woody vegetation, such as trees and shrubs. They have found that burn intervals may predict the rate of woody vegetation expansion along streams.

Steve Mason was sitting at the Oasis the other day talking about the glory days of Muncie when the bar used to cash $15,000 worth of pay checks on a Friday from workers at Ball Brothers, Warner Gear and elsewhere in south Muncie. But the family bar that started as a supper club opened by Mason's parents, Hershel and Dorothy Mason at Burlington and Memorial, is still around to celebrate its 62nd birthday Saturday as the longest continually owned bar and restaurant by a family.

Mayor Dennis Tyler joined Ball State President Paul Ferguson this week to offer survival tips for students living in off campus neighborhoods besides engaging them in being part of the community. The walk through some of Muncie's student neighborhoods surrounding campus was part of the Campus Community Coalition effort to reach out to students.

09/18/2014   Zombie properties, abandoned homes target of urban renewal in Muncie IN

A bold initiative undertaken by the community and college to rid inner city neighborhoods of abandoned homes will kick off Oct. 1. And Mayor Dennis Tyler is targeting property owners who flip property for a quick dollar, buying homes out of the tax sales and then returning them to the government after the money is made. One city attorney called those hundreds of homes "zombie properties" that are tied up in ownership and delinquent taxes even making it difficult for government to do anything with them.
